Board Governance & Nominations Change
(London Business School International Alumni Board)
London Business School were faced with the scenario that the Board did not fully reflect the 30,000+ international
demographic of its alumni community. The Board’s behaviour was not consistently aligned to the prioritised
needs of the School. Tenure on the Board was largely by election, with no term limits. Resistance to change was
high, driven by differing cultural perspectives and views on strategy.
Michael led the Governance & Nominations Committee and Board through a change process that successfully led an extensive stakeholder communications campaign, vote and implementation of new Terms of Reference. Over the last three years, his team successfully transitioned the Board, replacing members progressively with rigorous nomination, selection and succession management; leading to a Board that is now much more, demographically representative, aligned and energised.
